About

Lisa is a practicing Lay Buddhist in the tradition of Engaged Buddhism, founded by The Zen Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh and it is through him that the approach belongs to the Linji (Rinzai) tradition of Zen Buddhism. With emphasis on mindfulness, meditation and connecting with the breath, the approach is now practiced all over the world with the root monastery, called Plum Village based in France.

In 2021, Lisa received the Five mindfulness Trainings by Plum Village and was given the Dharma name 'Simple Trust of the Heart' and continues to practice with The Oxford Sangha.

Learning to use the breath as a tool has also been instrumental for Lisa as she has a passion for cold water. Often found either in a lake, river or dipping tub, embracing the cold water is a challenge which has helped her to develop mental strength and improve her own health and mental resilience.

Lisa experienced post-natal depression, generalised and severe depression along with anxiety and knows how this can impact on every aspect of your daily life and relationships. Additionally, she has a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and now along with the varying symptoms of Perimenopause, this can at times debilitating Over the years Lisa has learned many tools to help with symptoms and in improving her own health and wellbeing, a  clear patten was emerging - The breath, and how this simple but vital part of our whole being affects us, in particular when we are not being mindful of our breathing at times of stress and anxiety.

Lisa embarked on a journey to know more, and attended personal training with experienced practitioners who offer a variety of different approaches and techniques. Lisa has trained in Raja yoga meditation with the Brahma Kumaris and also with Wim Hof and Jamie Clements at The Breath Space. Lisa has completed the Breathwork facilitator training with Michael Bijker (Yoga LAP) which is aligned with her aim of delivering breathwork sessions influenced by the practice of Yogic breath (Pranayama) and Mindfulness, hence the name 'Breath Awareness Meditation'.

Appreciation

A note of appreciation for the friends and family that have and continue to support my journey. Without you, I am not me and this would not be possible.

A special thanks to my lovely friend Ruth Bint who has kindly provided her excellent photography skills to capture the pictures for my website and social media, and as someone who avoids the camera at all costs, this was probably not an easy task!
